Buddhism

Buddhism teaches us that it is possible to be free – regardless of the conditions in your life. There is a ground of being that is a stable and reliable base amongst the continual fluctuations in our lives. We are reminded that we can rest. Buddhism also teaches us about compassionate and skillful action in response to suffering.

I bow to all the Asian lineages from Burma, Thailand, Tibet, China, Sri Lanka, Japan and Nepal. I see the incredible sacrifice that was made to keep these teaching alive, sometimes at the cost of lives. I aspire to offer these teaching in a way that honors the depth of the Dharma while adapting to the immense needs of these times.

I am particularly grateful to Tara Brach who offered me my first retreat in 2005 completely on gift and set my love of retreat practice in motion. I am also grateful to Phillip Moffitt who mentored me from 2008 until 2022 and whose grounded and ethical love created a container where I could eventually see myself. And to the Thai Forest Lineage, particularly Ajahn Cha and Ajahn Buddhasa, neither of who I have met in person, but whose teachings always feel close. And to the wild masters and forest dwellers of the Nigyma Lineage who inspire me to radically adapt these teaching to the needs of these times in unorthodox ways. I bow to you all.
